As Inside Out 2 nears its release, early reviews suggest it could be one of Pixar’s best films ever. To celebrate Pixar’s rich history, it’s worth noting that Monsters Inc. remains one of the studio’s most cherished creations.
Amidst Pixar’s current wave of changes, a sequel to Monsters Inc. seems almost certain. But when can we expect it?
While it isn’t confirmed that Pixar is actively working on the sequel, they are optimistic about its future. Previously, Pixar announced their commitment to enhancing their writing strategy, rejecting live-action adaptations or lazy writing in favor of original ideas.
Pete Docter, CCO of Pixar, shared insights on the franchise’s future plans:
“I always thought there was some rule that would be the formula for what films become franchises or what gets sequels, and there isn’t. It’s much looser, but obviously, it’s based on all of the above. We have to find something we think is worthy, first and foremost.”
“It should be something hopefully the audience responded to — and then we could still not find anything. We’ve been searching for ideas for a Monsters, Inc. sequel for a long time, and we haven’t seen enough to start working on anything there yet.”
It’s encouraging to see Pixar improving their content in every possible aspect. Unlike Disney, they seem to be shifting from a purely profit-driven strategy to focusing on what fans would love to see, emphasizing quality over quantity.
