If we talk about the powerful film industries in India then it usually boils down to Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Sometimes Kannada films also make noise. But that’s it. We may talk about Bangla and Marathi films in some aspects but they fail to leave a mark outside their linguistic community.
A big reason behind this can be the lack of technical and financial strings. But, it looks like Planet Marathi OTT is trying to fix that. The platform has been active in the Marathi space for a long time now but could never become as powerful as Aha Video and Hoichoi. But, things may change for the better.
“Planet Marathi OTT has received $5 million in funding from A&MA Capital, a private equity firm. This investment will help Planet Marathi improve its technology and offer better services. The platform has also partnered with Dcafe, a media-tech company, to enhance its technical capabilities.
According to a recent report, regional OTT platforms like Planet Marathi are expected to grow and produce more content in local languages. Currently, about 30% of content on OTT platforms is in regional languages, but this is expected to increase to 55% in the future.
Producing content in regional languages can be costly, with some original series costing around ₹20 crore to make. But if they grab the pulse of the audience with good relatable content then it doesn’t require any more effort. Aha Video and Hoichoi have proved it and now is the chance of Planet Marathi OTT.
