Poor Reviews Couldn't Stop Buddy on Netflix

Often movies that are not a box office hit, get their fair share of success in OTT platforms. It is not a new phenomenon movies like “Oh My God” got its recognition when it came to TV. The OTT platform in some way made it easy for movies to gather up some of its targeted audiences.

Director Sam’s “Buddy”, starring Allu Sirish is no exception, the story revolves around a guy who suffers from a saviour complex.

He helps an aspiring pilot who got panicked in mid air, showcasing the signs of a stereotypical hero.

In this movie the walking, talking, running Teddy lacks its own characteristics. The inclusion of a teddy which was probably included to gather a mass family audience including kids. I doubt they will find it amusing because of the rapid change in the school system, these things won’t even attract the audience.

If you want to include a character who is a teddy and give it life, give it some character as well, this is a major drawback of the movie.

Although this movie is taken from a Tamil movie “Teddy” the director changed it’s notion and also included a new storyline in it.

But the movie maniacs carve for some story which has a good storyline which will attract the audience. “Buddy” loose threads and not so impactful storyline made it a box office flop.

The romance between two characters would have been better and none the less the absurd timing of comedy in this movie is nonsense. Every movie which has a tension going on in the plot craves for comic relief but how badly woven it can be that the comic relief doesn’t evoke laughter within the audience.

Now, in the case of OTT people want to see what’s new in the field.

“Buddy”, caught their attention just like that, in Netflix because you have a vast range of choices it’s easier for one to decide what to watch and what not to, on 30th August it started streaming on Netflix and right now, trending in 5th place on Indian Netflix, but still got 3.5 on IMDb.

But another side is we have to keep it in mind that the blockbusters are not yet released on Netflix, or any other thought provoking movies are not out yet.
