Poor Things: Mark Ruffalo Joins This Unique Experimental Project!

Poor Things is the next movie that has an engaging premise and a quirky storyline. Mark Ruffalo is all set to join the likes of Emma Stone in this film which will be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.

Poor Things is based on the novel by Alasdair Gray. The novel has won a lot of acclaim from several people due to its humorous undertone along with a thought-provoking storyline that forces you to think about the desires of men as well as the independence of women.

Poor Things is actually inspired by Frankenstein but the monster is replaced with a gorgeous woman who is brought back to life but with the brain of an infant. The whole premise sounds so interesting and with an amazingly talented lead cast like Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone, it feels that this project is in safe hands.

Tony McNamara will be adapting the novel for the screen. The novel was published in 1992. It even won the Whitbread Novel Award and Guardian Fiction Prize in the same year. Alasdair Gray wrote a lot of novels in his time and died on 29th December 2019.

The main character of Bella in the film drowns herself to escape the cruelties of her abusive husband but a surgeon manages to keep her alive by removing the brain of the child inside her and placing it in her skull. This gives Bella the mental abilities of a child and all hell starts to break loose after she eventually gets engaged to a physician from Glasgow named Archibald McCandless.

Even though Poor Things may be along the lines of Frankenstein, the subject matter is still highly experimental and one can never say how the audience will accept it or whether the execution will be up to the mark.
