The theatrical release date for R Chandru’s latest directorial venture ‘Kabzaa’ has finally been revealed. The period action Kannada movie starring Upendra, Sudeep, and Shriya Saran is all set to release in cinemas on 17th March 2023, coinciding with Late Kannada film actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s birthday.
‘Kabzaa’ is set between the years 1947 and 1984 and follows the story of a courageous freedom fighter and Gandhi follower Raja Amareshwara, who is killed by the Britishers. Later, the deceased freedom fighter’s son Arkeshwara (played by Upendra) becomes a powerful underworld don. The film will ostensibly throw some light on the rise of gangsters in India during that era.
‘Kabzaa’ is being touted as the Kannada film industry’s first pan-India film of the year 2023. Besides its original Kannada language, the period actioner will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Oriya, and Marathi languages.
Previously, ‘Kabzaa’ was also named amongst the most anticipated movies of 2023 by the globally renowned entertainment portal IMDb. It was placed on the seventh rank along with the likes of ‘Pathaan’, ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Adipurush’, ‘Salaar’, ‘Indian 2’, ‘Animal’, and ‘Dunki’, amongst other Indian movies.
So, naturally, the curiosity quotient and expectations from ‘Kabzaa’ are quite high. R. Chandru’s previous film as a director was ‘I Love You’ (2019), which also featured Upendra in the lead role. Prior to that, R. Chandru and Upendra had also worked in the 2014 film ‘Brahma’, So, ‘Kabzaa’ is the third creative collaboration of the actor-director duo. And Sudeep’s last film ‘Vikrant Rona’ was a box-office hit. Considering all this, ‘Kabzaa’ is a potential blockbuster for the Kannada film industry. Verdict will be out on 17th March 2023. Stay tuned.
