The kindergarten super-girls of the city of Townsville are getting a live action makeover. The beloved animated series The Powerpuff Girls is being created as ‘Powerpuff’ for a live action series by The CW.
The CW has just unveiled the first official look of ‘Powerpuff‘ with a glimpse of Chloe Bennet from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.S., Dove Cameron from Descendants and Broadway actress Yana Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively. It’s evident from the first look that the girls are all grown-up, not kids anymore and will not be donning the iconic crime-fighting costumes.
The animated show from Cartoon Network centered on these three little girls with superpowers. The girls all lived in the fictional city of Townsville with their father and creator, a scientist named Professor Utonium. They are frequently called upon by the city’s mayor to help fight criminals led by Mojo Jojo. The Powerpuff Girls made its official debut as a Cartoon on November 18, 1998 and became an instant hit among the kids around the world.
Based on the same basic premises and characters created by Craig McCracken, the prospective CW series Powerpuff is reimagining the formerly kiddie-sized superheroes as disappointed and more bad-ass grown-ups who will again reunite to save Townsville City as well as the world.
Reportedly, Donald Faison will portray Professor Drake Utonium with Nicholas Podany as Mojo Jojo Jr., and Robyn Lively will play the role of Sara Bellum. Tom Kenny will reprise his narrating role just like in the animated series for the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls.
Powerpuff will be produced by Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions and Vita Vera Films in association with Warner Bros.Television.
The new ‘Powerpuff’ trio is looking very promising as the superheroic young women in the first official photo from the live action makeover, now filming in Atlanta.
