One reason that has many wondering is why ‘Ponniyin Selvan-Part 1′ makers are waiting so much to start the promotional activities for the biggie. The movie slated to release on 30th September has not yet started major promotional activities besides minimal digital promotions by the lead stars.
Tamil cinema’s biggest multi-starrer not starting its promotions to get the word out to the rest of the country is what has many fans concerned. The film’s buzz in Tamil Nadu is quite decent, the same cannot be said for the rest of the country. Many fear the time left may be too less time for promoting an event film. And this mistake has become a lesson learned for Prabhas’ Adipurush.
Adipurush, Om Raut’s 500cr VFX-heavy magnum opus, is the film adaptation of India’s epic Ramayana and the makers are leaving no stone unturned in its promotions. The biggie which has locked the release date of 12 January 2023, is set to start its promotions 3 months prior!
The promotional activities will start with the launch of Adipurush’s teaser at a grand on-ground event in Ayodhya, the divine birthplace of Lord Ram, on October 3. Reportedly, Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Om Raut, and the team will be present at the launch. This marks the start of the three months of promotions for the retelling of one of India’s biggest epics.
Moreover, Prabhas is also slated to attend a Dussehra ceremony as a guest of honor and burn the Ravan’s effigy at New Delhi’s Luv Kush Ramlila on October 5.
Post the pandemic, the need to create buzz among the audience is more necessary than it has ever been. Almost all films that had good opening numbers had very extensive promotions across the country like ‘RRR’, KGF-2, and ‘Brahmastra Part 1- Shiva’.
Three months seems enough time for the team to do good promotions and if they can keep up the hype and let the story and Prabhas’ star power do the rest, big opening numbers are guaranteed. Interestingly T-Series being the producer of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, one of the few films that worked post-pandemic knows first-hand what good promotions can do to help good content work in the theatres and are hence giving the film their all.
Ponniyin Selvan Part-1 has, however, as per rumors, tied up with multiplex chain PVR for the film similar to what RRR did. But whether the time left for the release is enough to market the film and create buzz required for a pan-indian film is what many doubt. Let us hope that the promotions may be effective in bringing attention to Tamil cinema’s 70-year-old dream and create even more hype for the second part of this ambitious endeavor.
