The government owned things are usually assumed to be boring and formal. They might serve the utility but they lack the ability to attract. Just look at the difference between a private publisher and NCERT books. While the latter is of superior intellectual quality, it is less fun than the former.
Similarly, Prasar Bharati doesn’t come close to the private channels in terms of presentation and competence. But, things are about to change.
You must be aware that Prasar Bharati is set to launch its own OTT platform. It is a known fact now. The news is that Prasar Bharati is inviting proposals for app integrations. The broadcaster has outlined two types of proposals, both based on a revenue-sharing model.
The first proposal is for app-in-app integration, where platforms such as OTT apps, gaming apps, or educational apps can share their content with Prasar Bharati’s upcoming OTT platform. In this model, the applicant platform will provide its content to Prasar Bharati, and the revenue generated will be shared between the two.
The second proposal also involves app-in-app integration but with a content exchange component. This means that both Prasar Bharati and the applicant platform will share content with each other, enhancing the variety of content available on both platforms. Like the first option, this too will operate on a revenue-sharing basis.
Proposals will be evaluated according to the guidelines in Chapter 11 of Prasar Bharati’s Content Sourcing Policy, which was released on July 9, 2024.
It’s crucial that the app platforms and their content meet the eligibility criteria and comply with the terms and conditions outlined in the policy. A notable restriction is that gaming apps promoting monetary transactions, betting, or games of chance will not be eligible for consideration.
If Prasar Bharati indeed comes bundled with interesting games then it would be a great thing to worry about for the competition. Let’s see what truly happens.
