Reese Witherspoon shook the world of 2000s rom-coms with her portrayal of Elle Woods, a sorority sister who on the way to winning her (jerk) boyfriend back, ends up becoming a badass lawyer instead. No list along the lines of ‘Best rom-coms to watch when you feel down’ is complete without ‘Legally Blonde’ being a part of it.
And now, to the utter joy of fans of the genre and the actress, a prequel series, following Elle’s life in high school titled ‘Elle’, is officially in the works at Amazon Studios. The series is set years before the events of the first movie, which kicked off as she graduated from college and headed to Harvard Law to pursue a legal career like it was the easiest thing in the world.
Created by Laura Kittrell, writer of ‘Insecure’, ‘The Dolls’, and ‘High School’, who will also serve as showrunner, the show follows Elle in high school as we learn about the experiences that shaped her into the sunshine-like iconic young character. However, this is also not the only ‘Legally Blonde’ series in the works at Amazon MGM.
The other is a spinoff written and executive-produced by the ‘Gossip Girl’ duo, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown, all films associated with the bright pink tag of ‘Legally Blonde’ have been for the books!
