20th Century Studios has greenlighted Prey 2, the sequel to the outstanding Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey (2022), which starred Amber Midthunder in the leading role. The actress played Naru in the 2022 project, which takes us back to the 1700s in the Great Plains. Being a member of the Comanche tribe, Naru tries hard to earn everyone’s respect by trying to establish herself as a successful hunter. Her real taste begins when the iconic Predator starts hunting the members of her tribe.
According to Deadline, Prey 2 is in the early developmental stage, with no confirmed cast members. Amber Midthunder is in talks to reprise her fan-favourite character of Naru. If she officially joins the project, we may witness the continuation of Naru’s journey as the proud and fearless Comanche warrior. We may also witness her completing her training and frequently encountering the Predators.
However, Midthunder’s removal could force the makers to introduce a new character, maybe another Comanche warrior who becomes a part of the Comanche tribe after Naru’s time. This scenario could give the Comanche-Predator rivalry a new and intriguing dynamic, opening doors for new stories and characters.
Given the franchise’s history, we should not ignore the chances of witnessing a completely new character in Prey 2 with no ties with the Comanche tribe at all. This may shift the sequel’s attention towards the Human-Predator rivalry.
Prey 2 is in the early developmental stage, indicating that it could come out next year, in 2025. It may even get a theatrical release, considering the sensational success of its 2022 predecessor (available on Disney+ Hotstar). Stay tuned for more updates.
