Prime Video India has just dropped the release date of its upcoming new original film ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’. Today being ‘World Radio Day’, Prime Video thought the day fit to announce the release date of ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’, for the simple reason that the radio plays an important role in the patriotic period drama. ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ will premiere on Prime Video worldwide on 21st March, 2024.
‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and directed by Kannan Iyer. Iyer has earlier directed the Emraan Hashmi – Konkona SenSharma film ‘Ek Thi Daayan’. The film is written by Darab Farooqui and Kannan Iyer himself. Sara Ali Khan plays the lead role in ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’.
The film is set in the backdrop of the Indian film struggle, in the period before and after the Quit India Movement in 1942. It retells how a young girl helps in the freedom movement by making innovative use of the ubiquitous radio. ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ is reportedly inspired by true events.
The film announcement video a year ago had shown Sara Ali Khan’s character motivating freedom fighters and challenging the imperialists through the radio. The plot is somewhat reminiscent of ‘All The Light We Cannot See’ which also had the radio as a prominent part of the narrative.
Besides Sara Ali Khan, Ae Watan Mere Watan’ stars actors Benedict Garrett, Alexx O’Nell, Sparsh Srivastav, Anand Tiwari, Abhay Verma, Richard Bhakti Klein, Godaan Kumar, Ashton Bessette, Priyanam Das, Ed Robinson, Manya Singh, Ankur Yadav, Garrvil Mohan, among others.
