If you think that the competition of staying ahead in Indian market for streaming platforms is neck to neck, then you’re absolutely correct. While Amazon Prime Video is possibly the best content provider right now as per Indian audience, it is not the only thing in which the streaming giant is ahead from its peers.
Amazon Prime India has churned out plenty of mouth watering content in the past two years as almost all of their shows have been a huge success. But as all the shows have brought them praise, they have also brought a bunch of controversies along with them. Be it Mirzapur, Paatal Lok, Rasbhari or their latest political drama – Tandav. The platform has never been short of creating nation wide debate.
Tandav is the latest original series by Prime Video India. The show boasts a very talented starcast and is directed by one of the top directors of the current era – Ali Abbas Zafar. But ever since the premiere of the show, Tandav is generating negative buzz towards itself from the netizens. The netizens are targeting the show based on a particular scene which happens in the starting 30 mins.
The scene we are talking about happens in Vivekananda National University aka VNU where a play is organised by the students. We see the actor Zeeshan Ayyub playing the role of Lord Shiva in the play and asking the audience whether he should be more active on Social Media as Lord Ram’s fans are increasing day by day. The scene further continued and addresses the “Azadi” slogan which has been in trend among the university students and common people.
The netizens came out with the fact that the particular scene shows the Hindu gods in a bad light and hence stuff like should be boycotted. And needless to say there have been more than 200k tweets on the #BanTandavNow trend.
Apart from hurting the religious sentiments, the show was attacked by politicians for creating a disharmony between the people by using casteism and showcasing it in a bad light.
For anyone who has watched the show can draw parallels to the real life incidents which have happened in the nation and thus their have been a high voltage drama on the internet since the show’s release. Apparently several legal notices have been sent to the official bodies regarding ‘Tandav’.
Seeing the huge uproar against the series, it will be interesting to see how the makers react to the situation and will it hamper the image of Amazon Prime Video in Indian market.
