Streaming behemoth Prime Video is known to be ultra secretive when it comes to revealing details of the performance of its shows and movies. Unlike Netflix, the streamer never reveals the number of views a title has garnered or any tangible information on its popularity in countries around the world.
However, in a departure from its standard behavior, Prime Video has revealed, maybe for the first time ever, the top-performing non-English titles globally. We still do not have similar information on top performing English titles globally on the streamer yet, but given Prime Video’s penchant for secrecy, the reveal on its Top 10 Non-English titles globally is a good start.
Maybe it has something to do with Prime Video’s aggressive push in creating and distributing non-English content in non English-speaking countries. But nevertheless, we’re glad for any information forthcoming from the enigmatic stables of Prime Video.
Prime Video’s list of Top 10 non-English titles globally includes both shows and movies. Also, the list takes into account Non-English titles released in the past one year. The titles are the globally most watched non-English language local Original movies and series, based on their performance outside of their country of origin.
A proud achievement for us in India is that a popular Indian title has made it into Prime Video’s global Top 10. And it is none other Raj & DK’s hit show, ‘Farzi’. The Shahid Kapoor show is known globally as ‘Fakes’, and it sits proudly at #8 on Prime Video’s Global Top 10 for Non-English Titles.
Significantly, the titles land on the list based on their popularity outside of their country of origin. Which means that Farzi was as popular outside India as it was within the country.
The top two positions in the list have been snared by Spanish film ‘Culpa Mía’ (My Fault) at #1, and French film ‘Medellín’ at #2.
Both films have achieved record-breaking international success, becoming the biggest travelling non-English language local Original titles in the streaming platform’s history.
