Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 Brings Big New Director!

Blade Runner needs no introduction to its fans. The franchise has always been dear to them and there is finally a new update. Jonathan van Tulleken, the person who directed and helped make the first two episodes of FX’s Shōgun, is taking on another big job. He’s been chosen to direct and oversee the first two episodes of Blade Runner 2099 on Prime Video. This news comes after Jeremy Podeswa had to leave due to other work conflicts caused by the writers’ strike.

Originally, Blade Runner 2099 was supposed to start filming in Belfast last summer. But because of the strike, everything got delayed. Then, the production moved from Belfast to Prague, in the Czech Republic, in October. Prague is becoming a popular spot for making big sci-fi shows.

Blade Runner 2099 is a sequel to the famous 1982 Blade Runner movie and the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049. It’s a collaboration between Alcon Entertainment and Scott Free Productions, with Ridley Scott, who directed the original movie, as one of the executive producers.

Jonathan van Tulleken has also worked on a show called The Changeling for Apple TV+. He’s represented by WME, Grandview, and Independent agencies.

The series is set to start filming in April. People are excited to see what van Tulleken will bring to Blade Runner 2099.
