As October looms large on the horizon, — yes, it’s September already! — it’s Halloween time at the streamers. Like every year, it’s time for streaming giants Prime Video and Netflix to roll out details of the Halloween content they plan to premiere on their respective platforms.
Prime Video has already taken the lead in the race to showcase the choicest horror titles for lovers of spooky content in Halloween month. The platform revealed the first glimpse of its slasher horror flick ‘Totally Killer’, which comes from the masters of horror, Blumhouse Productions. Totally Killer premieres on Prime Video worldwide on 6th October, 2023.
The ‘Totally Killer’ glimpse gives us our first look at the villain in the movie, nicknamed The Sweet Sixteen Killer. Unlike the grotesque-looking killers of slasher horror movies of the past, The Sweet Sixteen Killer is handsome and good-looking, with a charming smile and perfectly coiffed hair. He preys on nubile young girls, out to have a good time.
‘Totally Killer’ is not just a slasher horror flick, it is also a time-travel story. Like the beloved ‘Back To The Future’, Totally Killer’s heroine Jamie travels back in time to 1987, where she must face off against the sadistic killer who’s unleashed terror in her small town. She receives help from unexpected quarters in her face-off against The Sweet Sixteen Killer – her own mother, albeit the teenaged version of her in 1987.
Kiernan Shipka plays lead protagonist Jamie in Totally Killer, while Olivia Holt plays the 1987 version of her mother. Julie Bowen plays the older, present version of her mother. Randall Park, Liana Liberato, Lochlyn Munro, Charlie Gillespie, among others, make up the rest of the cast.
The film is a mix of horror and dark comedy, and promises a thrilling watch in Halloween month. Totally Killer is directed by Nahnatchka Khan’s, who’s earlier directed the movie ‘Always Be My Maybe’ for Netflix. The film is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, along with Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks.
The official logline of Totally Killer reads – “When the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer” returns 35 years after his first murder spree to claim another victim, 17-year-old Jamie accidentally travels back in time to 1987, determined to stop the killer before he can start”.
