The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted on Prime Video in September 2022. It pleased the majority of critics. Although, the audience’s reception was more mixed. Praises were directed at the show’s visuals and Bear McCreary’s score. However, some plots, characterisations, and long running times of the episodes received criticism from fans. Despite the controversies, the streaming platform took no time to greenlight Season 2 after the immense success of the first season in terms of viewership. The show attracted over 25 million viewers within 24 hours of its release. One of the show’s actors, Ismael Cruz Cordova, has teased what the second season has in store for the viewers.
Cordova revealed some intriguing details about Rings of Power Season 2 in his recent appearance at an FYC event for the show. This is what he said:
“We were in a time of relative peace in Season 1 and all that gets shaken up. Now we’re dealing with the aftermath of this big evil that is now concrete. We got the guy now; Sauron is here. In Season 2, we’re grappling with that. These characters are grappling with their elvish-ness or their dwarf-ness, with their humanity and their loves. What you’re going to see is the depth of our reality and how it is expressed. That’s where it all takes off.”
The biggest change viewers may witness in Season 2 may come in the form of Galadriel’s character. She looked more fierce and aggressive in the first season, opposite of Cate Blanchett’s take on the character in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Actor Morfydd Clark has already teased major changes for her character in the upcoming season. Galadriel will learn to let go of the darkness in her past and inner demons in Season 2. Additionally, more rings will be created, and she will yield one of those rings.
Season 1 culminated with revealing that Halbrand (Charlie Vicker) was Sauron. He visits a scorched land which later becomes Mordor. After announcing his true evil self, he even offered Galadriel a chance to join him. Will we see a one-on-one battle between Galadriel and Sauron in Season 2? Only time will tell us.
Season 2’s cast is getting updated as well, with new additions of Ciaran Hinds, Tanya Moodie, Rory Kinnear, Ben Daniels, Gabriel Akuwudike, Amelia Kenworthy, Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour, and Nia Towle.
