Prime Video India had announced its first Telugu Original film in April 2022, as part of its flashy event revealing its 2022 India slate. Titled ‘Ammu’, it is the first Telugu film conceived and created by Amazon Prime Video exclusively for release on its platform. Well, ‘Ammu’ is finally ready for release on the platform. This morning, Prime Video announced the release date of ‘Ammu’, along with a first look poster and teaser of the film. ‘Ammu’ premieres on Prime Video India on October 19, 2022.
‘Ammu’ stars Aishwarya Lekshmi in the titular role. The film will mark the Malayalam film star’s second outing in a Telugu film. ‘Ammu’ also stars Naveen Chandra and Bobby Simha in as yet unspecified roles. The film is written by Charukesh Sekar and Padmavathy, and directed by Charukesh Sekar. ‘Ammu’ is produced by Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films.
The official synopsis of ‘Ammu‘ as revealed by Prime Video India reads, “Ammu is a sweet name, with a terrifying story. In an attempt to get her abusive husband suspended from police duty, Ammu does the unthinkable.”
Going by the synopsis of ‘Ammu’, it seems Aishwarya Lekshmi will play an abused housewife, a la Alia Bhatt in Netflix’s ‘Darlings’. And just like Alia’s character in Darlings, Ammu will do something ‘unthinkable’. Seems like a film worth waiting for!
The first teaser for ‘Ammu’ shows Aishwarya Lekshmi’s character sharing her pre-marriage dreams of a Prince Charming sweeping her off her feet. Her whimsical musings are interrupted by a harsh voice calling out her name gruffly. The teaser ends with a terrified-looking Ammu walking in the direction of the voice.
Ammu premieres on Prime Video on October 19. Have a look at the first teaser of the film –
