Prime Video has launched the trailer of it’s upcoming original series ‘Waack Girls’ and it’s about a group of girls trying to carve their own space while mama gaing their personal lives. Helmed by Sooni Taraporevala, ‘Waack Girls’ will premiere only on Prime Video on 22nd November, 2024.
The trailer for ‘Waack Girls’ is set in the heart of Kolkata and begins with Ishani, an expert waacker, performing waack in a talent show where she is ridiculed for her unique and mostly unfamiliar dance style. But she catches the eye of Lopa who is amazed by her performance.
Lopa excitedly talks about her plan to manage a girls waacking dance group that will be led and trained by Ishani. This raises hopes for Ishani too who is struggling to carve her own space while managing her personal family struggles. They still manages to gather a group of six girls, each being unique and unapologetic, with their own issues. Together they go on to perform various gigs but not without troubles.
They face challenges on and off dance floor, battling personal, familial, and societal pressures. United by a fearless defiance, they live life on their own terms, claiming their hard- won space.
The trailer is well cut and promises a story of struggles and triumphs that is relatable to many. Emoting through dance is an excellent form of displaying emotions and if ‘Waack Girls’ manages to do that well, it can be an amazing show for Prime Video. Despite being a female oriented series it does not have that typical girly vibe and feels raw and real and that could be the USP of this show.
Created and directed by Sooni Taraporevala who has co-written the show with Iyanah Bativala and Ronny Sen, ‘Waack Girls’ stars Mekhola Bose, Rytasha Rathore, Chrisann Pereira, Anasua Chowdhury, Priyam Saha, Ruby Sah, and Achintya Bose.
Produced by Matter Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment and Jigri Dost Productions, ‘Waack Girls’ will land on Prime Video on 22nd November, 2024.
