Princess Diaries Is Coming Back! For the Third Time! Details Inside!

The Princess Diaries is coming back! According to confirmed sources, a third film in The Princess Diaries franchise is in the making at Disney. The 2001 American coming-of-age comedy film was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by late Garry Marshall. Loosely based on Meg Cabot’s 2000 young adult novel of the same name, the film was written by Gina Wendkos and starred Anne Hathaway (her feature film debut) and Julie Andrews in lead roles.

The 2001 film’s success established Anne Hathaway as a leading bankable actress and revived Julie Andrews’ career, following which a sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement was released in 2004 (also directed by Marshall) . The second installment also tasted success. Almost 18 years later, there’s a development on the third part, and we are excited!

The Princess Diaries followed Mia Thermopolis, a shy American teenager who learns she is heir to the throne of a European kingdom. Under the guidance of her estranged grandmother, the kingdom’s reigning queen, Mia must decide whether she should claim the throne she has inherited or renounce her title permanently. The third part to The Princess Diaries franchise is said to be a continuation of the stories narrated in past installments and not a reboot.

The third installment is said to be penned by Aadrita Mukerji with two-time Emmy nominee Debra Martin Chase returning to produce after working on both past installments. Much details on the film have not yet been divulged like the plot, Hathaway and Andrews’ involvement etc. However the actress had expressed her interest in a third Princess Diaries film while promoting her latest release Armageddon Time. Stay tuned for more updates.
