Prithviraj Joins Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil With Amazon Prime’s ‘Cold Case’!

By Binged Bureau - Jun 21, 2021 @ 02:06 pm

The much awaited teaser for Prithviraj’s ‘Cold Case’ dropped on YouTube two days ago and like we predicted – it came with an Amazon Prime Video watermark. The rumors regarding the film’s streaming rights being bought by Amazon Prime Video, have been floating for weeks now so we are glad that we managed to “call” it early. With the film now officially releasing on Amazon Prime Video, Prithviraj becomes the third Malayalam superstar to directly release a movie on Amazon Prime Video in 2021, after Mohanlal (with Drishyam 2) and Fahadh Faasil (with Joji). ‘Cold Case’ will also be Prthiviraj’s first ever direct-to-OTT release, by the time it premieres at the end of this month.

Cold Case’ was made during the Covid-19 pandemic, with all the necessary precautions and restrictions, as per the new film set requirements. With the situation at the time of filming being quite dire in Kerala (it is still quite bad now), ‘Cold Case’ was planned to be released as a direct-to-OTT film. But after the State Government of Kerala decided to allow theatres to open in January and then allowed night shows by the first week of March, ‘Cold Case’ film producer, Anto Joseph, decided to release the movie in theatres. But then production slowed down and by the time the movie was almost finished with post-production, theatres in the South-West State shut down and Kerala was undergoing a second State-wide lockdown.

Fast forward to the third week of June, with Kerala going through more than one and half months of Covid-19 lockdown, Anto Joseph decided to stick with his original plan to release this movie on an OTT platform. Anto penned a letter to Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) and Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation (KFEF) informing them of this plan. A week later, we got this teaser trailer running on the official YouTube channel of Amazon Prime Video. Check it out at the end of this article.

With ‘Cold Case’ meant to be an OTT watch originally, we expect this movie to be more gripping for the home audience, than it would have for the theatrical audience. We can’t wait for the movie to release, and luckily for us, we do not have to wait very long for it to premiere.

Prithviraj’s ‘Cold Case’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 30th 2021.
