In 2019, Prithviraj released his directorial debut, ‘Lucifer‘, and the movie was a massive success. The Mohanlal starrer became the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time, and we expect its sequel, which has been titled ‘L2: Empuraan’, to be even more successful, when it releases. The prequel movie is going to be remade in Telugu which will feature Chiranjeevi in the lead role. It seems that Prithviraj and Murali Gopi are in the process of remaking the hit Mollywood feature film as a web series in Hindi as well.
According to the director-actor, Prithviraj, and the screenwriter, Murali Gopy, ‘Lucifer’ had so much content, that they had planned to make the film initially as 3 season web series. Both of them had mapped out the story for the web series from start to finish, but big-budget Malayalam web series were not a thing then (nor are they now). And since OTT platforms weren’t looking at Malayalam content when searching for quality content back then, the writer-director duo had to eventually choose a portion of the written story to be made into a film. This is how ‘Lucifer’ came to be.
However, now, with OTT platforms more than willing to work with Malayalam filmmakers, Prithviraj and Murali Gopy can fully realise their project for the small screen. Although there is no official announcement yet, Prithviraj has confirmed that he and his team from ‘Lucifer’ are currently in the process of developing the aforementioned movie into a TV series. With the film having won over the South Indian crowd with its over-the-top style editing and storytelling, we expect this Hindi web series to be a huge hit in India if it gets the green light.
‘Lucifer’ is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
