If someone asks – who is a certified Malayalam OTT star – only one actor comes to mind and his name is Fahadh Faasil. With films like ‘C U Soon’, ‘Irul’, ‘Joji’ and ‘Malik’, all releasing on various OTT platforms; this is not a big surprise. However, another Malayalam actor is slowly rising up the ranks to stake claim in the “Mollywood OTT space” – and that actor is Prithviraj. Of course, there are other actors such as Kalpana and Roshan Mathew who deserve a mention for their “direct-to-OTT work” as well, however, Prithviraj is getting a separate mention because he is going to equal Fahadh Faasil’s record of being in the most back-to-back Malayalam films, which was released directly for streaming in the year 2021.
The aforementioned Irul, Joji and Malik are the three Fahadh Faasil films that were released back-to-back in the year 2021. Prithviraj has acted in two films which were released directly for streaming so far – ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Kuruthi’ (which was released back-to-back). However, in two weeks, another Prithviraj film is expected to be released directly for streaming, ‘Bhramam’. And Bhramam follows Kuruthi in Prithviraj’s filmography – making it his third back-to-back Malayalam film released directly on an OTT platform – thereby equaling Fahadh Faasil’s record.
Of course Fahadh has another record – he has the most number of Malayalam films which were released back-to-back on an OTT platform – 4 (including C U Soon). So while Prithviraj will equal the 2021 record, he has to release another film directly for streaming in succession, to equal Fahadh Faasil’s back-to-back OTT record. And that is still possible.
Prithviraj’s upcoming direct-to-OTT releasing film, Bhramam, is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 7th 2021.
