Theatres are finally opening in Kerala and you know what that means – new Malayalam premieres. While Malayalam cinema has had pan-Indian recognition during the past 12 months, thanks to films like ‘Drishyam 2‘, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ and ‘Malik’, the time has come for Malayalam film-makers to finally start releasing films on the big screen. With theatres opening tomorrow (October 27th 2021), the psychological horror-thriller, ‘Star’ is a perfect film to watch in theatres.
Except, this Prithviraj, Joju George starring feature film will only premiere in theatre on Friday, 29th October 2021. The first two opening days of theatres will feature Hollywood big-budget films, ‘No Time To Die’, ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings’ and ‘Venom 2’. Only after those two days will ‘Star’ premiere. Still, upon release, it will be the first Malayalam film to premiere in Kerala theatres since the second lockdown happened due to the second wave of the coronavirus. And there is a good chance that this film will share this “honour” with another Malayalam film, ‘Ajagajantharam’.
Jayasurya is unfortunate to not be a part of either of these two films. Jayasurya was part of the first Malayalam film which was released directly for streaming, last year and he was also part of the first Malayalam film to release in theatres after the first theatre reopening. The Malayalam actor has made history in Mollywood during this pandemic and could have made history again by releasing another film on October 29th, 2021 – but the actor will likely not even know about his aforementioned achievements either.
