Very recently popular filmmaker Priyadarshan had a trip to West Bengal and he met some directors and producers in the Bengali film industry. According to ‘Pink’ director Aniruddha Roy Choudhury, Priyadarshan is planning to make a movie in Bengali.
This is indeed a big news for fans of Bengali cinema and also for the fans of Priyadarshan. However, nothing is officially announced and the story, cast and other details are still under a veil of mystery.
Priyadarshan is credited for directing wonderful films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, but he has not directed any Bengali film. His ‘Hungama 2’ and ‘Marakkar’ did not perform very well and they were criticized by audiences and critics as well. Fans have been waiting for a big comeback from the director for many years, but he has been disappointing them time and again. On the other hand, the Bengali film industry is suffering from a lack of creativity. There are the typical stories with similar tropes and there is no innovativeness at all. Audiences are tired with the same stories being told again and again. It needs a different perspective and a different approach to storytelling, which Priyadarshan can offer. The industry and the filmmaker can help each other do their much awaited comebacks.
If Priyadarshan really directs a Bengali film, he can bring a highly unique and diverse story to the table, and audiences are already waiting for something different than the usual romance, and children’s detective movie there. His movie will be accepted with love and it will be a win-win for both Bengali cinema and Priyadarshan.
