‘Pudhu Putham Kaalai’ is Amazon’s latest attempt at a Tamil anthology film, and it will feature five films centered around the on-going global pandemic. All five films were shot separately and then pieced together later by the film editor. Here is what you need to expect around this lock-down centric film.
‘Pudhu Putham Kalai has been split into five short films named ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’, ‘Avarum Naanum – Avalum Naanum’, ‘Coffee, Anyone?’, ‘Three Union’ and ‘Miracle’. The idea for the film originated from Rajiv Menon who had a hand in making three of the films. The five short films have been directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon (GVM), Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon and Karthik Subbaraj.
The first short film ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ will feature the father-son duo of Jayaram and Kalidas, while veteran actor Urvashi will join this short piece as well. Kalyani Priyadarshan rounds off the cast for this film. Francis Thomas and Shruti Ramachandran have been credited as writers for this part of the film. The second one, ‘Avarum Naanum – Avalum Naanum’ will be a short film about a granddaughter staying with her grandfather featuring M. S. Bhaskar and Ritu Varma. Reshma Ghatala has been given the writing credit for this short film.
The third feature ‘Coffee, Anyone?’ was written by Mani Ratnamand Suhasini Maniratnam and the cast is primarily of women from the Haasan family. The cast includes Shruti Haasan, Suhasini Maniratnam, Anu Hasan, Kathadi Ramamurthy and Komalam Charuhasan. The fourth feature ‘Three Union’ was filled with three non-regular actors for the role including Leela Samson, Andrea Jeremiah and Gurucharan C, which will tell a story of three people stuck together due to lockdown. It was written by Rajiv Menon, Adithya KR and Krishnaswamy Ramkumar.
The final short film ‘Miracle’ is actually inspired by a true story about a robbery that took place over 10 years ago. This time it will be set during the period of the lockdown. The short film will feature Bobby Simha, Sharath Ravi and K. Muthukumar and it was written by the director Karthik Subbaraj.
The film Putham Pudhu Kaalai will feature on Amazon Prime Video on October 16th 2020.
