It’s a bitter-yet-true fact that the shelf-life of feature films at the theatres is getting lesser by the day. Word of mouth in the online world has become such a crucial factor in convincing a theatre-going audience to buy a ticket. One such Tamil film that couldn’t last long at the theatres owing to the same was the Jyotika-starrer Raatchasi, which has now arrived on Amazon Prime.
The film is about a government school headmistress Geetha Rani who has to fight several odds including rebellious students, irresponsible faculty and poor work culture as she takes charge of her position. How does she go about this transformation? You’re in for a gripping, hard-hitting take on the education system that turns slightly preachy by the end.
Directed by Sy Gowthamraj and also featuring Poornima Bhagyaraj and Satyan in the lead roles, Jyotika appears to do a Vijaya Shanti in this. She has a heroic introduction, beats up people, firm on her word and has every other quality that defines a lead character in a female-centric film. One would hope the film get its due in the digital medium.
