Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan’s Radhe recently released in a Hybrid model – theaters, DTH Platforms, and on OTT. The movie was a big flop but still proved the model to be effective in the COVID times. It is like a theater release in the Overseas markets and an OTT-DTH release in India.
Zee Group which is behind Radhe’s Hybrid model of release reportedly made a similar offer to Young Rebel Star Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam. Rumors are that the makers are seriously interested but it will be Prabhas’s call. OTT release has been still taboo with most stars in India particularly those from the South.
Radhe Shyam was previously announced for the 30th July 2021 release. Even though we have good two months for that date, no one is sure if things will be conducive for a Pan-India level massive release like how a Star like Prabhas will need. Moreover, Radhe Shyam has been under production for around three years. So, there are other pressures as well for the producers.
If at all Prabhas gives his nod to this release, it will be a huge boost to the prospects of Zee in the OTT space. The Group is already riding high bagging the post-release theatrical rights of RRR. Bundled with this, Zee will look to further penetration across the country particularly in the South markets where it is relatively weak.
