In recent times ones has seen a lot of controversy being brewed in Bollywood, especially when it comes to Nepotism and the cultural biases that are portrayed in the dialogues or lyrics used in such films.
‘Beyonce sharma Jayegi’ was just a volcano waiting to erupt. Bollywood has long created such norms which have associated fairness with beauty and restricted the female lead to nothing but helpless sidekicks or blatant sex appeal.
Radhika Apte is one heroine who has taken this industry by storm without any strong backing or nepotistic relationships and is the true epitome of talent and perseverance in an industry that has been highly patriarchal since its very inception.
She made inroads into the hearts of several viewers, especially when the streaming giant Netflix expanded its Indian market with a high emphasis on local content as she was cast in every second series at the time.
Time and again, she has given impactful performances whether they were for the critically acclaimed ‘Parched’ or the commercially successful ‘Bazar.’ She won great praises even for her work in ‘Manjhi’ ‘Insomnia’ and her most recent film ‘Raat Akeli Hai’. I’m sure that this article won’t be enough if we start listing all of her outstanding performances and I’m also certain that Netflix would agree. (PS: I really think that the social handle of Netflix has a big crush on her)
Her versatility is a crucial component to her success and whilst other heroines were going for the safe and quintessentially flat characters Radhika Apte is like a breath of fresh air that has excellent screen presence and a charming yet badass vibe to all the roles that she has played. Don’t forget that she also killed shapeshifters in ghoul.
Her time has come, and as Bollywood is opening up to several new concepts and ideas, one thing is sure that actresses like Radhika Apte will set the tone of how things will move ahead.
