In an exciting revelation by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. regarding the status of the Indian branch of the Russo Brothers’ inter-continental spy series ‘Citadel’, the celebrated filmmaker duo have disclosed important details (via Variety) that production is scheduled to commence in early 2022. The celebrated duo will be developing the Indian counterpart of the main US series ‘Citadel’ for Amazon.
It was further revealed by Raj and DK that presently the Indian component of the multi-series is being written by them along with their former collaborator Sita Menon. The duo have previously worked with Sita Menon in multiple projects including ‘99’, ‘Shor in the City’, and ‘Go Goa Gone’. When the writing part is done, they will then initiate the casting process – that’s something to look forward to.
Regarding the local language satellite series namely Indian, Italian, and Mexican spin-offs of ‘Citadel’, Krishna D.K. has stated (via Variety) that “Every country’s series is its own series with multiple seasons, but there’s going to be crossovers and cross-references.” “It’s an action thriller drama, about super agents across the world”, Raj Nidimoru added.
Production for the American counterpart of the series, which is being described as the ‘mothership’ series, is already underway and is being directed by the Russo Brothers alongside ’21 Bridges’ director Brian Kirk.
The cast of the main series will be led by Scottish actor Richard Madden (‘Bodyguard’, ‘Game of Thrones’) and Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas (‘The White Tiger’, ‘Quantico’, ‘Mary Kom’). ‘The Lovely Bones’ actor Stanley Tucci is also part of the project.
Richard Madden will also be seen in MCU’s upcoming superhero film ‘Eternals’. While Priyanka Chopra’s forthcoming projects include ‘Matrix 4’ and ‘Sheela’.
The Indian component of ‘Citadel’ is expected to begin production somewhere in the first quarter of 2022. That will be around the same time when the main US series is expected to start streaming from January 2022 on the Amazon Prime Video platform.
