As soon as the Maharashtra government announced the reopening of cinema theatres from 22nd October, it’s been raining film announcements for Bollywood! Movie makers and production houses have been quick to announce the release dates of their films, thereby blocking the biggest dates of this year and the next. Two majorly anticipated releases, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and Prabhas-starrer ‘Adipurush’ are all set to clash at the box-office as makers of both films announced the release date as August 11th 2022, for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
The Om Raut directed magnum opus ‘Adipurush’ based on the Ramayana, stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. The pan-India film is reportedly being shot on a budget of a whopping 500 crores! As for the feel-good family drama ‘Raksha Bandhan’, the Aanand L. Rai directorial also stars actress Bhumi Pednekar in the lead. While the filming of ‘Adipurush’ is underway, ‘Raksha Bandhan‘ has been completed for a while and its release was delayed due to the pandemic.
Incidentally, both the projects have chosen the best day of the 2022, since the day is followed by a long list of festivals and holidays. While the two films release on the 11th of August, post the following weekend, the next Monday, August 15th, marks our Independence Day, after which, follows Parsi New Year on August 16th and the festival of Janmashtami on the 18th and 19th of August. To top it all, the next two days 20th and 21st are also holidays and part of the next weekend! So, all in all, these films have a good 10 days post the release date, which is sure to clock in huge collections and break some records!
It is also interesting to note that actor Akshay Kumar has a string of releases till the end of 2022, starting with ‘Sooryavanshi’ on Diwali 2021, followed by ‘Prithviraj’ on 21st January, ‘Bachchan Pandey’ on 4th March, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ on 11th August, ‘Ram Setu’ on Diwali 2022, as well as ‘Oh My God 2’ and ‘Atrangi Re’ towards the end of 2022. Besides these films, he also has ‘Cinderella’ and the action web series ‘The End’. Undoubtedly, Akshay can be crowned the busiest actor in Bollywood!
