The promos for ZEE5’s upcoming season of its flagship show Abhay 2 threw up a stunning surprise – Ram Kapoor, in a never seen before avatar! The popular actor is seen in a devilishly evil role, far removed from the sometimes spoilt, mostly sweet roles we’ve always see him in. The cherubic Ram Kapoor plays an unrepentant criminal in Abhay 2, and the menace he radiates is outright spine-chilling. Kunal Kemmu reprises his role of Special Police Officer Abhay Pratap Singh from Abhay 1.
While Abhay 1 had focused on different cases in different episodes, Abhay 2 apparently takes the entire season to solve a single case. Ram Kapoor plays a criminal mastermind, who is put into jail for some despicable crimes he has committed. But even in jail, he leaves no chance to rile Abhay from behind the bars. Is it a past enmity between the duo that makes him do so? Or is he wired that way – irreverent, unrepentant and pure evil?
In that sense, Ram Kapoor’s antagonist gives distinct Hannibal Lecter vibes, from the seminal Silence Of The Lambs. In that movie too, Hannibal, played to chilling perfection by Anthony Hopkins, riled and unnerved Clarice (Jodie Foster) in a similar way. Ram Kapoor portrays a similarly unnerving character in Abhay 2, with the ability to cause lesser men to shrivel and cower in fear before his evil presence.
Several scenes show him facing off with Abhay, in gripping sequences of a clash of wills. One such sequence shows him covered in blood, his own or a fellow jail mate’s – we don’t know. What we do know is that gone is the angelic hero of well-loved TV shows. In his place is a Ram Kapoor who spits fire and fury, and an ominous vileness.
Just for that, and his epic face-offs with Abhay Pratap Singh, Abhay 2 seems to be a series sequel to watch out for!
Abhay 2 will premiere soon on ZEE5. Have a look at the teaser here –
