The re-telecast of Ramayan on DD National has worked wonders for the channel. It has set the TRP ratings on fire. According to the latest BARC India data, it created a new viewership record worldwide.
The latest ratings data from BARC suggests a phenomenal 77 million impressions on April 16. It is a global record for an entertainment programme. The show, which began re-telecast from March 28th has ended its run on April 18th.
The World Record viewership once again proves the popularity of the epic tale among the masses of India. The series created by Ramanand Sagar initially aired in the ’80s. Since then there have been many re-runs, the latest of which we witnessed in the lockdown.
DD National is trying to build in on the success of Ramayan and bring more old shows to the viewers. They have already started Uttar Ramayan and plans are underway to bring Shri Krishna, as well. We have to see if these shows also generate a similar response. It is crucial for DD as the latest buzz suggests a significant drop in viewership.
Irrespective of how things move ahead, the lockdown period is giving a boost to popular content, digitally or otherwise. Ramayan is the biggest proof with its world-record breaking numbers.
