When it was announced that there will soon be a movie based on the popular Bengali graphic novel Rappa Ray, there was quite a sensation among fans. But it has been long since we got any news about how the adaptation is working out now.
Rappa Ray is like the Indian version of Tintin like Shaktiman is the Indian version of Superman. He has his nuances and a separate identity indeed but there is also too much in common. Rappa Ray, not unlike Tintin, is a journalist and he finds himself among different kinds of troubles all the time, and that leads him to many hilarious adventures. The graphic novels are highly popular among young readers, and if a movie is made out of it, it will most probably be tagged as a children’s movie.
It was recently announced that there will be a Bengali adaptation of Tintin as well, and it will be named ‘Kuttus’ after the Bengali version of Tintin’s pet dog Snowy. But there is no news of that one as well. Fans are waiting eagerly for these stories. Mainak Bhaumik was roped in to direct Rappa Ray and now he is busy with Ritwick Chakroborty’s ‘Bhagyo Lokkhi’. Amartya Ray and Rajnandini Paul were supposed to star in the adaptation, but there is no news still.
Hopefully there will be some update about the movie soon and a teaser or poster will be revealed.
