Some movies are guilty pleasure. We call them so because they are bad and yet manage to be fun sometimes. Some are bad to the extent that they become unbearable. There is no strict formula to determine the difference as it is usually very subjective.
“Rathnam”, a Tamil action film directed by Hari lies in the same confusion. The movie stars Vishal in the lead role, with Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Hareesh Peradi, Mohan Raman, and Vijayakumar in supporting roles.
The plot revolves around Rathnam, a henchman working for MLA Panneer Selvam in Vellore. Rathnam takes on the responsibility of protecting Malliga, a medical student who bears a lot of resemblance to his late mother, Loganayagi. This protective mission leads him to go head on against Beema Rayudu and his brothers Subba Rayudu and Raghava Rayudu. Rathnam then goes on fighting the war.
Released on April 26, 2024, “Rathnam” received negative to mixed reviews from critics.
The movie is now streaming on Prime Video and you may have a hard time tolerating the film. But, if you like the typical Tamil action movies then you may have found a new option to binge watch.
