More than 17 months have passed since the debut season of Netflix’s Arcane. Despite being a critical hit, fans have no idea when Season 2 of the show will come out. The series’ fanbase has even taken this matter to social media. Prepare to swallow a bitter pill, as the second season will not come out in 2022.
The CEO of Riot Games, Nicolo Laurent, recently shed some light on Arcane Season 2’s release window in a video clip of a Chinese social media page, Bilibili. He revealed that the sophomore instalment has no release window this year.
This is what Laurent said in the clip, “I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It’s not ready yet. There are two reasons for that, you want the quality, we just don’t want to rush, and so that takes time.”
It makes sense why makers are taking their time with Arcane Season 2. They want to protect the elements that made Season 1 successful in the upcoming entry. Arcane immensely benefitted from a diverse set of characters, including Vi, Powder/Jinx, Vander, and many more, and gave every one of them a chance to shine. In addition, the show’s music, animation designs, and fight sequences were executed very well.
Laurent added, “We didn’t know if Season 1 was going to be a success. So we didn’t start Season 2 until after. We didn’t know. And so if I’d known [Arcane was going to be successful], we could have started Season 2 way earlier, but we didn’t know so we kind of waited a bit and so now we’re paying the price.”
It seems like the makers are cautiously approaching Season 2. Considering the show’s potential to become one of the greatest Netflix projects, this approach does not sound bad. Every character in the animated series is diverse and multifaceted, each treasuring an intriguing backstory. The show can do wonders for Netflix in future if treated right.
Based on Riot Games’ League of Legends, Arcane is a story set in the futuristic city of Piltover. It focuses on the journey of two sisters, Vi and Jinx, who find themselves on opposing sides of an impending conflict over different beliefs and arcane technologies amidst the growing unrest between the city’s rich people.
