Someone needs to save Zack Snyder from himself! The sequel (don’t worry he’s planning more) to Rebel Moon Part 1, titled Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, has finally arrived on Netflix. As a result, the first reactions about the highly-anticipated sequel (for Snyder’s fans, obviously) are slowly surfacing on social media. Well, it is safe to say that our worst fears have come true.
A Child of Fire currently has a ‘rotten’ score of 22% based on 172 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. And its direct sequel, The Scargiver, has performed even worse, opening with a disastrous 13% RT score (based on 8 reviews). Yes, this rating will change as more critic reviews pour in. But we shouldn’t expect this score to climb much above 60%.
Not all reviews have destroyed Part Two. Some of them have declared the sequel marginally better than the first film. However, the rest are leaving no stone unturned in mocking Zack Snyder.
Many reviews have lamented Snyder for heavily borrowing from prominent franchises, like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and The Matrix. In addition, the sequel fails to take advantage of the first film’s open-ended finale.
Many viewers may consider The Scargiver a double-edged sword. The majority of the film focuses on the battle between the people of Veldt and the Motherworld. The sequel does benefit from some spectacular visuals and jaw-dropping battle sequences. However, it gets let down by poor character development, hollow plot, and hard-to-watch acting performances.
