The official teaser for Janhvi Kapoor‘s next survival thriller ‘Mili‘ is out now and it is going to be released on the 4th of November. ‘Mili’ is the remake of the Malayalam movie ‘Helen’ directed by the same director Mathukutty Xavier. It was the debut directorial for Xavier and it gained him the National award for a debut director. Anna Ben, who played the title role was a debutant too.
‘Mili’ will be clashing with ‘Double XL’ and ‘Phone Bhoot’ and this can harm the views of the movie tremendously. Probably the movie could have done a better business if it were to release directly on OTT. Janhvi’s previous movie ‘Good Luck Jerry’ released directly on OTT and it was trending there for quite some time and garnered decent views. It was released on Disney+Hotstar and the digital rights of ‘Mili’ are with Netflix. Revealing the name of the OTT platform may not be a very good strategy as it would affect the excitement of the fans to go and watch the movie in theatres.
There are tweets asking the very obvious question, if the film will release on Netflix anytime soon, what is the point of going to watch it in theatres! ‘Mili’ is not even getting enough promotions required for the release from Netflix.
The story of the movie is well known and the suspense effect for the survival thriller is obviously lesser. Helen was well accepted by the audiences and there is a doubt whether Janhvi will be able to meet that level with her performance or not.
Netflix promoted Alia Bhatt’s ‘Darlings’ tremendously and the results were reflected in the views which the film earned. On the other hand ‘Mili’ is not getting enough buzz that it should ideally. Seeing the last success of Kapoor on OTT and the promotional strategy of Netflix, it would be best if Mili released directly on Netflix with a good campaign.
Javed Akhtar and A. R. Rahman will be reuniting with Mili. They have given wonderful compositions in movies like ‘Sapne’, ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, ‘Lagaan’ etc. The music will be another asset for the film and it may help in creating the buzz as it did with Atrangi Re.
