There are so many things going on in the Indian media. Mergers, dissolves, legal troubles and many more things. Reliance made a big resurgence in the Indian media industry with the rebirth of JioCinema and they have been aggressive since then.
What’s the new update though?
Reliance Industries might buy a chunk of Tata Play, a TV and video streaming service, from Walt Disney. This could be the first time Tata Group and Reliance work together. Needless to say, Reliance and Tata are two giants of the Indian industry.
They want to mix Reliance’s JioCinema shows into Tata Play if they agree. But neither Reliance nor Disney has said anything yet, and Tata Play didn’t comment either.
There’s also talk about Reliance merging its media business with Disney, where Reliance would own most of it i.e. 51% to 54%.
Right now, Tata Group owns most of Tata Play, and Disney and a company from Singapore have some shares too.
If it happens, this deal could change how people watch TV and videos on JioCinema. Needless to say, JioCinema is a trash bin and it would stink the contents of Tata Play too.
It might give them more stuff to watch but are they even watchable for most people? Looks like Reliance isn’t ready for the answer yet.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. But this could be a big move that changes a lot in India’s media and telecom industry.
