We had earlier informed our readers that producer-director Karan Johar is working on a new anthology for Netflix, his preferred OTT platform. Earlier titled ‘The Other’, the anthology feature has now been named, ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’. Although Dharmatic, the digital content arm of Karan Johar‘s Dharma Productions, had revealed some of the actors of the anthology, the names of the directors had been kept top secret. But now, Karan Johar has revealed more details about the upcoming anthology, including the names of the directors of the four stories in the anthology, and some more names of the cast.
Karan Johar’s new Netflix feature is again an anthology of four films, same as his earlier Netflix offerings, Lust Stories and Ghost Stories. The directors that will helm the four stories are some of the most popular ones in Bollywood. They are – Shashank Khaitan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badri Ki Dulhania); Raj Mehta (Good Newzz); Neeraj Ghaywan (Masaan) and Kayoze Irani (he played the gay Kaizaad in Student Of The Year).
Coming to the cast, we had already shared the names of a few of the stalwarts acting in the anthology. Here’s the full extended list, with the new names added. ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’ will feature a large ensemble cast. Stars that are already in the lineup include Shefali Shah (Delhi Crime), Manav Kaul (State Vs Nanavati, Jolly LLB 2), Nushrat Bharucha (Dream Girl, Chhalaang), Fatima Sana Shaikh (Dangal, Ludo), Jaideep Ahlawat (Paatal Lok), Abhishek Banerjee (Paatal Lok), Aditi Rao Hydari (Delhi 6, Sufiyum Sujatayum), Inayat Verma (the cute kid in Ludo) and Konkona Sen Sharma (Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Lipstick Under My Burkha, and scores of others).
We also know the core premise of the anthology. As per a statement released by Dharmatic, Karan Johar’s Ajeeb Daastaans will consist of four short films that will shed light on relationships and their complexities. It is a film that will delve into the various complexities of human relationships.
Karan Johar’s anthology has been in production since late 2019 – early 2020. As per our estimates, it should most likely release on Netflix in the first half of 2021. That is, Covid-19 permitting.
