Venice, Busan, Singapore – after winning hearts and accolades across the world, Indian-American film maker Ivan Iyr’s truck has reached its ‘Milestone’ in India via Netflix.
Netflix has just dropped the trailer for Meel Patthar or ‘Milestone’, along with its release date. Milestone premieres on Netflix on 7th May. The film is essentially a Hindi-Punjabi drama, co-written, edited and directed by Ivan Ayr and produced by Kimsi Singh from Jabberwockee Talkies.
The story of ‘Milestone‘ follows a truck driver Ghalib who tries to cope with the tragic death of his wife. The film’s larger backdrop is a distressed economy that encourages hiring of younger, lower-paid workers over veteran employees. As the trailer indicates, Ghalib, portrayed by Suvinder Vicky, has built up trust over decades with the knowledge he brings to his work with his superiors. But it all becomes irrelevant when he is asked by those very superiors to train a young recruit, Pash, played by Lakshvir Saran.
This Hindi-Punjabi language film ‘Milestone’ had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where Ivan Ayr’s first film ‘Soni’ too had premiered in 2018. To add to the accolades, it has already won the Best Film Award. Suvinder Vicky won the Best Performer Award in the Asian feature film category at the Singapore International Film Festival.
Now from an accolades standpoint, this could surely be a winner, but is this film the best fit for contemporary Indian audiences? Is this suitable OTT content for Netflix subscribers? Only time will tell how it can compete with today’s fast-paced OTT content, when it premieres 7th May on Netflix.
