Rhys Ifans Reveals New Details On House Of The Dragon S3

House of the Dragon Season 3 has received a new update from actor Rhys Ifans, best known for playing Otto Hightower, regarding its filming schedule, which was originally supposed to commence in January of this year. The hype for the third season remains substantial, despite a dip in ratings during Season 2.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Ifans shared a brief update about the highly anticipated Season 3. The actor is currently busy promoting his upcoming movie, Inheritance, directed by Neil Burger, who is best known for the Divergent movie franchise. This is what he said:

“I don’t know. I don’t know, but I can smell the sulfur. [Chuckles] There’s something brewing. I can say, yeah, they start shooting soon this year, so I’m sure you’ll be able to watch it in about 25 years.”

Some media outlets reported in December last year that filming for Season 3 was supposed to commence in early 2025. However, Ifans’ recent statement clearly shows that Season 3 has not yet received a confirmed date for its filming schedule.

The third season will undoubtedly be bigger in scale and have higher stakes than Season 2, especially considering how the sophomore chapter culminated.

Daemon swears fealty to Rhaenyra after foreseeing a future involving Daenerys and a White Walker, which strengthens his belief that Rhaenyra should take the helm of the Seven Kingdoms.

Moreover, we are yet to witness Aegon’s actual descent into complete madness, which will eventually earn him the title of the Mad King.

Even if production for Season 3 commences in the first half of 2024, there is no way it will be ready by late 2025. So, we should expect the third season to come out in 2026.

On the other hand, this delay makes sense, given how the animosity between House Green and House Red escalated in Season 2. It suggests that the feud between these houses will be even more brutal and epic in the third season.

To capture the stakes and importance of this feud, House of the Dragon Season 3 needs a gripping storyline that can also win back the hearts of viewers—especially those who left the show after the polarised reception of Season 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
