Tis the age of reboots! All major content creation companies are in the race to reboot beloved yesteryear’s movies and TV shows into contemporary, face-lifted versions. A sizeable portion of new content coming up these days consists of remakes of the good ol’ oldies, both as films and as series.
Now comes news that another beloved film will get the rebooted TV series touch – eminent director Ridley Scott‘s 1982 hit ‘Blade Runner‘. The news comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Ridley Scott himself revealed the news in a chat with the BBC today. Scott is the flavour of the month as his film ‘House Of Gucci’ releases this week.
The TV series will be a live-action version of ‘Blade Runner’, and work on the series is going at a fast clip. The pilot of the show is being written as of now. An animated series on ‘Blade Runner: Black Lotus’ debuted on Adult Swim earlier this month.
‘Blade Runner’ has enjoyed abiding popularity among film buffs ever since it premiered in theatres in 1982. It is a sci-fi flick, set in the backdrop of a dystopian future. A young, dashing and intense Harrison Ford played a burnt-out cop, tasked with taking down a gang of rogue androids. The ‘Blade Runner’ TV series will be 10-episodes long. No cast for it has been decided yet.
Interestingly, Ridley Scott also spoke about the TV series reboot of his other enduring film, ‘Alien‘. The Alien TV series is also in active development, with a pilot episode being written for it at present. The Alien TV series was announced last year, with Noah Hawley as showrunner. The series is in development at FX.
