Ridley Scott Gives the Latest Update on ‘Gladiator’ Sequel

Ridley Scott is undoubtedly one of the most prolific directors of all time equipped with more than five decades of filmmaking experience. He is the man behind some cult and benchmark films like ‘Alien’, ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Black Hawk Down’, ‘Body of Lies’, ‘The Martian’, and ‘Gladiator’, to name a few.

The last film on the list, which featured Russel Crowe in the lead, is considered to be amongst Ridley Scott’s best works. Diehard fans of ‘Gladiator’ will be mighty glad to know that Ridley Scott himself has confirmed in a recent interview (via Empire) that the highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 film ‘Gladiator’ is already in the works. Regarding the ‘Gladiator’ sequel, Ridley Scott stated that “I’m already having [the next] Gladiator written now. So when I’ve done Napoleon, Gladiator will be ready to go.”

News regarding the long-awaited ‘Gladiator’ sequel/prequel has been doing the rounds since the release of the parent film in the year 2000. Eventually, in the year 2018, it was announced that the project is moving forward with Ridley Scott at the helm. It was also being suggested that the events of the sequel will apparently take place 25-30 years after ‘Gladiator’ and would revolve around Lucius (son of Lucilla).

Ridley Scott’s upcoming directorial film projects include the Matt Damon starrer historical drama ‘The Last Duel’ and the biographical crime film ‘House of Gucci’ starring Lady Gaga. Both these films are slated to release later this year. Currently, the virtuoso filmmaker is busy with ‘Kitbag’ – a film based on the French military and political leader Napoleon Bonaparte, his rise to power, and his relationship with his wife Josephine. The film will reunite Ridley Scott with former collaborators Jodie Comer and Joaquin Phoenix.
