Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ Sequel Gets A Release Date

In case you have been waiting for the release date for the sequel to Ridley Scott’s highly acclaimed historical drama movie ‘Gladiator’, the wait is over now. It has just been announced by Paramount Pictures that the ‘Gladiator’ sequel will be released in theatres on 22nd November 2024.

Things are now moving at brisk pace for ‘Gladiator 2’. Just a few days back, it was announced that the 26-year-old Irish actor Paul Mescal was in negotiations to star in the lead role for the sequel. Other actors who were also ostensibly in contention were Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet, Miles Teller and Richard Madden.

For the unversed, Paul Mescal was recently nominated for an Academy Award in the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ category for his performance in the critically acclaimed film ‘Aftersun’. Prior to that, the young and talented performer had impressed with his acting chops in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Lost Daughter’ and had won a BAFTA for the Irish series ‘Normal People’.

Another exciting thing about the yet untitled ‘Gladiator’ sequel is that it will be directed by the parent film’s helmer Ridley Scott himself. We say exciting because of the veteran filmmaker’s prolific filmmaking career embellished with some cult and benchmark films like ‘Alien’, ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Black Hawk Down’, ‘Body of Lies’, ‘The Martian’, and of course the Oscar winning film ‘Gladiator’.

The ‘Gladiator’ sequel’s story will be set many years after the events shown in the first film featuring Russel Crowe as the warrior slave Maximus. In ‘Gladiator 2’, Paul Mescal will essay the lead role of Lucilla’s son Lucius and Commodus’s nephew. In the parent film, Lucius’s character was saved by Maximus and the incident left a lasting impact on Lucius. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the ‘Gladiator’ sequel.
