Riverdale Star’s Anti-Child Sex Trafficking Crusade Will Now Be A Series

Riverdale’s Hermione Lodge is not a trustworthy character and can be suspicious at times, but the actress portraying her, Marisol Nichols is anything but. The veteran actress spends a lot of her free time working in sting operations to catch sexual predators, specifically the ones that prey on children.

Erika Hayasaki wrote an article in Marie Claire magazine recently, about the time she went along with Marisol Nichols during a few of her sting operations, which she did alongside local law enforcement. The actress spends her time split between educating parents on monitoring & restricting their kids’ social media, to prevent them from being victims and participating in undercover operations with either law enforcement, undercover FBI agents or members of Operation Underground Railroad. Sony Pictures Entertainment got in touch with Nichols to create a new TV series based off all these experiences, which was mentioned in the aforementioned article.

Nichols, herself was a victim of rape when she was just 11 years old. After the heinous incident, she began her downward spiral into depression and abuse of drugs. This continued into her 20s until she got a callback for a leading role for a pilot, which she had done simply for fun. That was the turning point for her at a low point in her life. She eventually went on to debut in the 1997 flick Vegas Vacation two years later.

She eventually went on to create the nonprofit, ‘Foundation for a Slavery Free World’ in 2014 and decided to work closely with anti-sex trafficking vigilantes and the police to have more of an understanding the subject. After being part of a sting operation on the first day, by portraying a young girl on the phone which lead to the the arrest of a child abuser, she immediately felt gratified by the work she did. Six years later, she has helped put over dozens of sex traffickers behind bars.

Nichols will be attached to the untitled Sony project as an executive producer and may likely star in it as well. She is also working on two other documentaries about human trafficking which she hopes will spread awareness among both children and adults, in understanding how children are tracked through social media by these sexual predators.
