Robert Downey Jr Joins Sherlock Holmes Spin-Off Projects For HBO Max

Robert Downey Jr is all set to become a part of two upcoming Sherlock Holmes spin-off instalments for HBO Max. The Iron Man fame will serve as one of the executive producers for the shows along with the producer of the actor’s Sherlock Holmes movie series, Lionel Wigram. The Hollywood Reporter first broke this piece of news.

However, it is not sure whether RDJ will appear in the forthcoming shows or not. The same goes for Jude Law’s Dr Watson as well. Furthermore, no one knows how deeply these series’ are related to the actor’s Sherlock Holmes franchise.

Robert Downey Jr received acclaim from audiences for his mesmerising performance as the most prominent fictional resident of 221B Baker Street, London, in the first SH movie. He even bagged the Golden Globe in the Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) category for his work in that one.

The third entry to the actor’s Sherlock Holmes series with Law returning was scheduled to dispatch in December last year. Although, its current status is unknown.

Apart from RDJ and Wigram, his wife, Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell will fulfil the duties of the series’ executive producers. No details regarding the shows’ premise, release date, and cast are out yet. Additionally, Warner Bros will function as the main production house for the forthcoming HBO Max entries.

The news of Sherlock Holmes spin-offs should not be treated as a surprise in present times. Streaming networks like Netflix and Disney+ are hell-bent on generating new methods for enhancing the quality of their content and improving their viewership these days. Nonetheless, RDJ fans will treat this news as a welcoming surprise. The on-screen Tony Stark’s last movie project was Universal Pictures’ Dolittle (2020). It turned out to be one of the biggest financial bombs in the actor’s career, causing the studio a loss of nearly $80-100 million.

Fans will see Robert Downey Jr appearing in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, scheduled to release next year. Plus, he has completed filming Jamie Foxx’s All-Star Weekend.
