Robert Pattinson May Bag An Oscar For ‘Mickey 17’

Robert Pattinson is no longer known as ‘the guy from the Twilight series’. The English actor has established himself as a versatile performer. He has given sensational and mesmerising performances in flicks such as Good Time (2017), The Lighthouse (2019), Tenet (2020), The Devil All The Time (2020), and The Batman (2022). However, he has yet to face the greatest acting challenge of his career, which is his roles in ‘Mickey 17’, an upcoming sci-fi thriller helmed by Parasite (2019) fame, Bong Joon-ho.

Wait! Did we say ‘roles’? Well, Pattinson will play many versions of Mickey, along with portraying the antagonist and protagonist, in the forthcoming Bong Joon-ho directional.

Inspired by Edward Ashton’s ‘Mickey 7’ novel, ‘Mickey 17’ will revolve around an ‘expendable’, Mickey Barnes, a human clone. He is sent on a mission to colonise the ice world of Niflheim. After the death of an iteration, a new clone is generated, preserving most of his memories.

Ashton has described his novel as ‘The Martian meets Dark Matter’. His book follows Mickey 7, who realises the meaning and significance of his existence after six deaths on Niflheim. As a result, he refuses to get replaced by Mickey 8.

We should expect Bong to keep the key elements of Ashton’s novel intact, even if he decides to bend Mickey’s storyline. Viewers may witness Robert Pattinson portraying different versions of Mickey in the film, an effort that may aid the actor in getting his hands on an Oscar.

Mickey 17 is another scintillating directional from Bong Joon-ho. As for Robert Pattinson, he will deal with something truly unique and out-of-the-box in Bong’s forthcoming project. This scenario will surely test his acting abilities. The film will come out on March 29, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
