Karan Johar recently made a splendid directorial comeback with the family drama movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. The film not only received rave reviews from critics and audiences but also turned out to be a big hit at the box office. RARKPK has received an appreciation score of 8.1/10 on movie ticketing portal BookMyShow and a decent IMDb user rating of 7.2/10.
And now, in a rather rare feat for an Indian film, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ has garnered international attention as well. Because the movie has cracked the coveted international list of the top 50 movies on Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd (from the year 2023). RARKPR is currently placed on Rank 45.
The same Letterboxd top 50 narrative films list for the year 2023, of which the Indian film RARKPK is now a part of, has been topped by the animated superhero flick ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ (Rank 1), followed by Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer’ (Rank 2), the romantic drama movie ‘Past Lives’ (Rank 3), Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster fantasy film ‘Barbie’ (Rank 5), and James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’ (Rank 7), amongst others.
Besides the latest addition of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, the only other Indian film from 2023 which is on the Letterboxd top 50 international movies is the well-crafted Tamil crime thriller – Vetrimaaran’s ‘Viduthalai Part 1’ (Rank 20).
Coming back to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, the movie’s basic story is about how an affluent Punjabi lad Rocky (played by Ranveer Singh) meets and falls in love with a drastically different Bengali girl Rani (Alia Bhatt). To check whether their marriage will survive or not, they decide to live with each other’s families for some time, leading to an amusing turn of events.
