Rohit Roy’s latest project is a web series titled ‘Paper’ which was released on November 13th, on the Indian OTT platform, Ullu. For those who don’t know, Paper is based on the real life scams which were started by the infamous counterfeiter, Abdul Karim Telgi. The streaming service has released 3 episodes so far and it is quite gripping.
Abdul Karim Telgi was an infamous figure back in 2003, when he was finally caught by the police. The series tracks the life of Abdul – from his time as a child fruit vendor (the wages he got, he used to educate himself in school) to the Scamming King of the country. His negotiation skills are still legendary and his ability to convince anyone of his way of thinking is scary and will be shown in the series. The series will take real events and create a fictional India for the show.
‘Paper’ focuses on three people primarily – Abdul, his “Lady Love” (portrayed by Kate Sharma) and the cop chasing him, Gaikwad (portrayed by Ganesh). Abdul’s gambling style of business makes him try something unbelievable, to satisfy his greed. This quickly becomes one of the biggest scams India will ever see. The series will touch on all this and the resultant devastating aftermath. ‘Paper’ is directed by Deepak Pandey.
The crime thriller series was released by Ullu as part of their Diwali release. This up and coming OTT service has been releasing new and original content weekly and has impressively had quite a lot of brilliant shows. Their promotional work has been exceptional, the cinematography has been brilliant and the cast has been exceptional. It is great to see that Indian OTTs are stepping up their game in this ruthless field and we commend them for their amazing effort so far.
Stream ‘Paper’ on Ullu streaming service.
