After entertaining the audience for nearly 19 years through his comedy and action-packed mass entertainers, helmer Rohit Shetty is looking to go big on Indian OTT with Prime Video’s Indian Police Force. The upcoming cop series stars Siddharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberoi, and Shilpa Shetty.
The prominent Indian director has bestowed not one but two successful franchises: Golmaal series and Cop universe. The first instalment (2006) of the former franchise aided Shetty in gaining people’s attention and the much-needed limelight. On the other hand, the latter has helped the director to expand his roots in Bollywood and to emerge as one of the most successful directors in Hindi cinema.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shetty spilled some beans about his upcoming Prime Video series, “This isn’t a script made in the pandemic. We had signed a contract with Amazon during the Golmaal Again days. It took us 5 years to write this script.”
He further added, “I am really happy with the deal that we struck with Amazon. They have supported us very well with the budget. For me, the Indian Police Force is nothing less than a Sooryavanshi. It’s not like we are doing something small. It’s exactly how I make an action film.”
Prime Video treasures plenty of gripping crime shows like Paatal Lok, Mirzapur, The Family Man, and many more. These projects have established Prime Video as one of the prime players of Indian OTT. And Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force will undoubtedly take the streaming platform to new heights of popularity. Record viewership is guaranteed here. Plus, Siddharth Malhotra’s last outing, Shershaah, worked wonders for APV. The makers of the IPF series will surely utilise this to their advantage.
Apart from his OTT debut, Shetty has confirmed that he will soon commence Golmaal 5’s shoot. “Two years of pandemic has shifted everything. I couldn’t start Golmaal because there was a big backlog for all of us. Everything is now fine by the grace of god and we will soon start work on Golmaal as well.”
